In 1870 the statue was offered to the University by the New Chancellor on behalf of the subscribers, and it was accepted;in 1878 it was unveiled, positioned in the staircase hall of the Fitawilliam Museum. The figure is in court dress, with lace bands, ribbon and star of the order of the Garter ,underneath the robes of the Chancellor of the Univerdity. It is set on a pedestal which has three carved reliefs ( the fourth side bear an inscription ) representing ,Literature and Science. Like much Victorian commemorative statuary, the overall ensemble thus offers a not too complex message in sculpture about the figure. Symbolic too is the fact that at a later date this tribute of the University to its Royal Chancellor, executed by an eminent Victorian sculptor, was moved from its original prominent site to an inconspicuous glade.在线等,明天上课用这是前半部分,还有后半部分,您先慢慢翻着,我快点打后半部分如果有我打错的单词,请提醒在线等,拜托了!!
